Model 114 drawer console by for , 1935
The wall-mounted drawer set combines two Aalto-designed components to create a functional piece of furniture. The brackets are laminated birch hoops conceived for his range of shelves and storage racks. The continuous plywood triangles are evocative and sculptural elements that become a signature component to a family of wall-hung designs. The drawer unit continues a highly reductionist typology for all of Aalto’s storage designs. The drawer-fronts are simple, unadorned planes with handles cut away beneath the drawer front. The plywood construction is carefully detailed to expose only half the depth of the plywood structure.
The drawer console functions as a small desk, a hall table or console and as a dressing table.
